The End of Hyphens?

These arti­cles sug­gest that peo­ple don’t under­stand how to use Eng­lish hyphens any­more, and that their use is dimin­ish­ing. This obser­va­tion is based on a recent Reuter’s arti­cle that claims that 16,000 words have recently lost their hyphen­ation in lat­est edi­tion of the Shorter Oxford Eng­lish Dictionary.
