Are some verbs always intransitive or transitive?
A blog member wrote to me yesterday to ask a good question: are some verbs always transitive or intransitive? In plain English, the question is whether there are some verbs that always have, or don’t have, an object. After some research, the answer seems to be “yes.” Consult a good dictionary to see which verbs are which. See the following link for an explanation: http://www.uni-giessen.de/~ga1047/grammar/ . In this example, the author uses the verbs “bake” and “take” to show how these verbs always need an object, and thus are always transitive verbs. Likewise, there are some verbs like “blow” and “wait” that are always intransitive. And there are many verbs that can be both.
